The weather is nothing if not unpredictable in and around Seattle, and you never know when you’ll have a warm spell and have the opportunity to head out for some outdoor adventures, or when it will rain for days and make it necessary to find indoor adventures.
Fortunately, Seattle excels in offering its residents opportunities for fun, relaxation, and excitement in its springtime activities. Here are a few you may wish to experience, particularly if you’re a new resident of the region and you’re still getting used to your new Seattle apartment.
View Tulips Around Your Seattle Apartment in Late March and Throughout April
The tulips usually bloom in early spring in areas where farmers grow them in bulk, and Seattle’s tulip farmers expect that their blooms will start arriving in the last week of March for 2018. The entire month of April is a great month for tulips in Seattle, and there’s even a Tulip Festival where you can enjoy the beauty of endless fields of blooming tulips.
One of the coolest things you can participate in during the festival is the Tulip Bus which transports you to and from the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival for around $40. The festival’s “Tulip Town” will open on March 30th, and some venues associated with the tulip festival are open year round.
Attend the Washington State Fair Spring Fair in April
If you’re willing to drive around 35 miles from Seattle, you can reach the Washington State Spring Fair, which is a small version of the large, annual Puyallup Fair. Like any fair, you’ll find rides and games, as well as deliciously unhealthy fair food. The fair is held from April 19 to April 22, and you may wish to check out the deals page from the official Washington State Fair website.
Many of the discounts are for early bird specials where you can save on park admission, as well as discounts for military members. There’s even a free day for kids and giveaways that occur during the festival. You’ll get to participate in a free giveaway if you’re one of the first 500 guests to arrive at the fair on its opening day.
View the Cherry Blossom Festival in Seattle
The cherry blossoms bloom every year in Japan, but it’s not always so easy to get to Japan to see them. If you’re a resident of Washington, heading to Washington D.C. to see that locale’s famous cherry blossoms isn’t always the easiest to accomplish, either. Fortunately, Washington State is home to the Seattle Cherry Blossom & Japanese Culture Festival each April.
The festival started when the former prime minister of Japan gave the city 1,000 cherry trees in 1976 to commemorate America’s bicentennial and the friendship between the United States and Japan. The official website indicates visitors can participate in arts and crafts and various Japanese-themed events and showcases throughout the festival.
